Item-Level RFID Continues to Impress ...
and Allows Others to "Dress for Success"

Item-level RFID implementations continue to grow and deliver impressive results for early adopter retailers. ABI Research has called RFID a "bright spot of growth" for large retailers. Motorola Director of RFID market development Tom Racette notes, “RFID helps keep data more accurate by seamlessly capturing its movement within the store and the entire supply chain. RFID also allows you to remove much of the human element. For example, you can take RFID pedestals and put them at various checkpoints within the supply chain. As that material moves through those checkpoints, it seamlessly and automatically captures when data is transmitted so you’re less likely to have errors.”

Even non-profits, with their heavy reliance on volunteer staff, can find that capability impressive. Dress for Success of South Central PA, a charitable organization that provides professional apparel and career counsel for disadvantaged women, is using item-level RFID to improve product availability and client servicing. CEO Ruth Koup and board member Deborah Pekala, both seasoned retailers, saw that RFID could help them execute some basic retail best practice principles and sought to apply them to the Dress for Success South Central PA organization.

Using an item-level solution provided by Motorola, Avery Dennison and Concept2Solution, Dress for Success South Central PA is beginning to track individual items within its three stores, warehouse and mobile unit as they are distributed to clients, enabling the organization's staff to find appropriate items quickly and easily perform regular inventory counts.
